Do chickens dream?

Like humans, chickens dream. Scientists say that chickens experience REM (rapid eye movement) sleep, which means they are capable of dreaming. REM is the stage of sleep where eyes are darting back and forth, or rapidly moving. Many scientists believe that REM sleep is where 80% of dreaming happens. Until now, only mammals and birds were known to experience REM. Research in a German laboratory involving five lizards called Australian bearded dragons indicates that these reptiles may dream.

But what do chickens dream about?

“Chickens dream about bugs, corn, feathers, and chicken wire.” ~ Laura Wasilowski, a contemporary quilt maker whose artwork is collected and exhibited internationally.

No, seriously, who knows?
